Research at the Section for Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (AID) is focussed on various subareas of Artificial Intelligence.
This research area includes the development and application of advanced statistical methods in the area of biomedical information engineering. The focus of the biomedical work is on “Neural Computation” methods (Neural Networks, Gaussian Mixture Models, Hidden Markov Models, Support Vector Machines, ...) to analyze medical data, for example, to recognize pathological patterns. . ---more---
The area of Natural Language Processing (NLP) deals with automatic processing of text and speech; including all its aspects, from analysis to synthesis (speech synthesis and text generation) as well as its combination. Basic research as well as applied research is undertaken, the former including modelling of human language processing, the latter including development of concrete systems in the form of demonstrators. --- more ---
Our research on knowledge-based systems focus on the representation and usage of knowledge in medical application systems. Knowledge is used to support medical decision-making, therapy planning, data visualization and quality control. Knowledge-based technology is applied with the intention to support physicians and nurses in their daily routine tasks as well as in complex decision support. ---more---
